It may be known as the first day of summer, but June 21 is also National Selfie Day.

Named the word of the year by Oxford Dictionaries in 2013 and added to Merriam-Webster Dictionary as an official part of American lexicon in 2014, the selfie has taken social media by storm.

Selfie ( self·ie, noun): an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks

Merriam Webster Dictionary

Cleveland is home to several selfie-worthy locations, from Lake Erie to outdoor patios and world-renowned art right in our backyard.

5 CLASSIC CLEVELAND SELFIES

1) Cleveland sports selfie

From the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Gladiators, Clevelanders love our sports teams. There's plenty of locations to snap that perfect Cleveland sports seflie, from inside Progressive Field or at Quicken Loans arena, to standing by the iconic 10-story-tall LeBron James banner on the Sherwin-Williams headquarters.

2) Lake Erie lovin' selfie

Lake Erie provides a natural backdrop for an outdoor selfie. From Edgewater Park to Huntington Beach, Clevelanders love snapping selfies on the water!

3) Selfie amid the art

The Cleveland Museum of Art is home to world-famous pieces of art. With natural lighting and beautiful architecture, it's a common Cleveland hot-spot for selfies.
