A Strongsville police officer will not face charges in the shooting death of a 36-year-old Lorain man, according to the Medina County Prosecutors Office.

The matter was concluded Tuesday when jurors returned a no-bill to the prosecutor against Officer Jason Miller for the death of Roy Evans Jr.

Miller fatally shot Evans following a chase on Interstate 71 back in March after authorities tried to pull his van over during a traffic stop.

According to reports, a woman and three children were inside the vehicle at the time Evans ran from police.

A high-speed pursuit lasted for several minutes before two cruisers boxed Evans in and he put his van into reverse and then moved forward, hitting one police cruiser. It’s not clear if Evans was trying to escape or if he deliberately hit the car.

Police said Evans would not comply with their orders and he appeared to reach for something.

Investigators never found a weapon in the van.
