CLEVELAND - Memorial Day is the unofficial kickoff to summer, but it's also a kickoff to big shopping deals. Some consumers are skipping the barbecue and grill and heading to the mall.
"It's too cold out there," said Carol Double.
The deals are hot inside at retailers.
"I got a pair of pants for $16, regular $28. I got a 40 percent discount," said Jose Ortiz.
"I got like 60 percent off that at Sears," said Double.
Customers are even trying JC Penney again. The retailer brought back sales, but raised their prices. You can still find clothing for under $20.
"They are working hard to get our business. I think the merchandise will be better a little better quality maybe," said Rita Rand.
Clothing is not the only deal this weekend. Garden centers and home improvement stores like Ace Hardware want your business.
"Pretty much half off deals, but you have to get the Ace Rewards card," said couponer Joe Daugirdas, aka Joe the Coupon Guy.
If you have a military card, you can save too. Businesses offer special discounts for retired and active duty service men and women.
"At certain amusement parts, they're giving away free admission to King's Island, Cedar Point, Wildwater Kingdom for those in the military," Daugirdas explained.
If you don't see a military discount listed, ask for one. Keep those who fought for the red, white and blue in mind when you're out spending some green.
Make sure you bring along your smartphone for extra savings. At some stores you just have to text a series of numbers for an extra 10 to 20 percent off your purchase.
