Is there's something in the air? Is it the region's extensive health care system? Life expectancy in the region has increased since the 1980s.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation gathered data from 1980 to 2014 and based on that data, Northeast Ohio has had an overall increase in life expectancy, more than anywhere in the state.

  • In Cuyahoga County, life expectancy was 72 years in 1980, increasing to 77 years old in 2014.
  • Next door in Geauga Lake, life expectancy is much higher at 81 years old.
