Charges have been dropped against the nephew of former Akron Police Chief James Nice who abruptly resigned last month after "evidence of conduct unbecoming of an officer, inappropriate contact with a city employee and potential criminal misconduct."

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office confirmed charges were dropped against 41-year-old Joseph Nice who had been accused of theft, forgery and evidence tampering.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Jason Wells granted Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, Matthew Meyer's request that the charges be dropped, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

On August 30, Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan requested the appointment of a special prosecutor to evaluate evidence surrounding the investigation of former Chief Nice.
