City of Akron to hand out free smoke detectors after fire that killed two adults, five children

The City of Akron will hand out free smoke detectors Tuesday after a fire that killed seven people. 

The smoke detectors will be made available to Akron residents at events scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.

Summit County residents interested in a free smoke detector can contact the Red Cross at 330-535-2030. 

Mayor Dan Horrigan will have smoke detectors at a town hall meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Innes Community Learning Center, 1999 East Ave.

Councilwoman Tara Mosley-Samples said free smoke detectors will also be handed out at East Akron Neighborhood Development Corp., 550 S. Arlington St., at 6 p.m. Thursday.
