Teen may be tried as adult in slayings of Jeffrey and Margaret Schobert in New Franklin

AKRON, Ohio - A 14-year-old boy suspected as an accomplice in the killings of a northeast Ohio couple could be charged as an adult.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports a juvenile court judge said Tuesday there's enough evidence for the Akron teen's case eventually to be moved to adult court.

By law, a judge must first have a hearing on whether the boy could be rehabilitated in the juvenile justice system if convicted. That hearing isn't scheduled.

The teen and an 18-year-old man were arrested for the April deaths of Jeffrey and Margaret Schobert. Authorities believe they were bludgeoned with a sledgehammer at their New Franklin home.

A defense attorney says the younger teen was threatened and the older teen caused the deaths.

The 18-year-old pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
