WILLOUGHBY, Ohio - A Willoughby man and 72 of his customers have been charged in a series of seven indictments centered on drug trafficking and possession.
Daniel Smith, 29, was charged by a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury with 244 counts of Drug Trafficking and 122 counts of Drug Possession between May and Oct. 2013.
The indictments also charge 72 of Smith’s customers, almost all residents of east side suburbs in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties, with 828 counts. The majority of those are for possession of cocaine, although 12 of the defendants also face at least one count of drug trafficking, according to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.
Most of the sales by Smith and others happened in the suburbs of Hillcrest in Cuyahoga County.
A number of law enforcement agencies made the bust through controlled buys and surveillance into Smith and his customers.
Smith’s bond was set at $200,000 in an arraignment Thursday.
