Building Better Neighborhoods: Another abandoned home is torn down in Akron

AKRON, Ohio - NewsChannel5 is committed to Building Better Neighborhoods and Wednesday a home we helped to deconstruct in Akron was torn down.

On Feb. 15, NewsChannel5 teamed up with Habitat for Humanity of Summit County to deconstruct a house on Morgan Avenue.

Construction crews along with NewsChannel5 volunteers removed the siding, doors and other building materials that were then taken to Habitat's Restore on Romig Road. The Restore is open on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Materials at the store are resold to people to use in home improvement projects.

Once the homes are deconstructed, they are then demolished by the city of Akron.

Habitat for Humanity of Summit County is scheduled to take down 25 vacant homes in 2013 with the help of Akron's demolition department.
