The Cleveland Police Environmental Task Force reported it's uncovered a massive illegal dump, and said much of the debris is from the recently completed West 130 Street road resurfacing project.

The project was commissioned by Cuyahoga County, utilizing some $7 million in taxpayer money.

Thirty officers, from 6 different departments, combed through the dump site, located behind behind Bellaire Auto parts, and said the tons of potentially hazardous material is threatening a creek which leads to Lake Erie.

So far no charges have been filed, and police are not officially identifying the contractors who may be involved.

Sgt. Andy Ezzo told News 5 illegal dumping by contractors working on major city and county road projects happens all too often.

Ezzo said it could take weeks, or months, to fully assess the environmental hazard and complete a clean-up of the dump site.

Ezzo said those responsible will face some serious charges, and he believes more oversight is needed in monitoring contractors on major road projects.
