CLEVELAND - A Cleveland man was convicted of raping a 67-year-old woman and stealing $2.
On July 19, 2006, 47-year-old Paul Croce broke into the victim's house through a bedroom window while she was sleeping, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty said.
Croce then held a blanket over the woman's face while he sexually assaulted her repeatedly, according to prosecutors. He punched the victim before stealing $2 and fleeing through the front door.
Prosecutors said a cigarette butt left on the ground near the back door matched Croce's DNA. He was arrested by Cleveland police on April 8.
On Monday, a jury found Croce guilty of aggravated burglary, kidnapping, rape and felonious assault. A sexual violent predator hearing and sentencing is scheduled for July 23.
