CLEVELAND - A Cleveland woman was sentenced for cashing in on more than $41,000 in benefits intended for her dead daughter.
India N. Parker pleaded guilty to two counts of theft of government property and five counts of making false statements. The 37-year-old was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
According to United State Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio Steven Dettelbach, Parker's 5-year-old daughter died in 2006 and she put the remains in a trash can, which was collected by a garbage truck. The girl's body was never found.
Parker then lied to family and investigators about Kaliyah's whereabouts. She stole $40,236 in Social Security checks and $1,393 in food stamps that was meant for her daughter, court documents said.
Parker was previously sentenced to three years for tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. She told investigators that her daughter died when a bookcase fell on top of her.
