Cuyahoga Co. house flipper Blaine Murphy sentenced
CLEVELAND - A Florida man who illegally flipped hundreds of houses in Cuyahoga County has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Blaine Murphy pleaded guilty to 11 criminal counts of fraud and tampering in April.
As part of his plea agreement, Murphy agreed to pay $1 million in restitution.
Prosecutors said the 44-year-old was involved in flipping 235 houses by filing forged deeds -- a scheme that ravaged neighborhoods by causing a decline in property values.
Racketeering charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Murphy could have been sentenced to 38 years in prison.
