Heavy rain causes flooding problems

CLEVELAND - Heavy rain overnight and Saturday morning are causing flooding concerns.

Cars were stuck at East 222nd Street and Euclid Avenue in Cleveland early Saturday as flood waters rose.

A Newschannel5 viewer from Painesville Township in Lake County reported heavy flooding there as well.

According to police in Mentor, some areas are flooded but no roads were closed. Cleveland Police said the same thing and mentioned they expected some closings later in the morning.

The City of Mentor is experiencing severe flooding problems as a result of a significant rainfall as well. Many roads throughout the City are impassable and closed including Bellflower Road, Route 306 at the railroad underpass (near Mentor Avenue), and Hart Street. Many of the City's smaller residential streets have also flooded and are closed to traffic.

Mentor City Officials are urging all residents to limit non-essential travel on city streets and encouraging those who must drive in the City, to utilize caution due to standing water on many roads.

The Mentor-on-the-Lake service department is out clearing storm sewer ditches and grates. The Fire Deparment may be able to assist if your basement is flooding.
