Police: DNA evidence links Cleveland man to two east side rapes

CLEVELAND - Cleveland police say DNA evidence has linked a Cleveland man to a pair of rapes on the city's east side.

Authorities said Michael Grant, who is behind bars in the Cuyahoga County Jail on an unrelated burglary charge, has been identified as the suspect in two January rapes.

Despite the DNA match, Grant's family doesn't believe their loved one is responsible for the crimes.

"He may have done the robberies, but I don't think he raped nobody. It's not in his character,." his grandmother said.

Grant's sister, Selethia O'Neal, told her grandmother the police busted down the door Thursday morning looking for her brother.

"I was talking and they told me to shut up or they would put me in handcuffs," O'Neal explained.

Police did not release the details of the assaults.

A search warrant was executed on Feb. 15 during which time a DNA sample was taken from Grant.
