Police: No evidence of shots fired at school transportation van on Cleveland's east side

CLEVELAND - UPDATE: Police announced Tuesday afternoon they found no physical evidence of shots fired at a school transportation van Tuesday morning. 


Fifth District Detectives and investigators assigned to the Scientific Investigation Unit processed the school vehicle for evidence and found no physical evidence of a shooting.  There were no projectiles (bullets, pellets, rocks, etc.) found within, imbedded in or around the vehicle.  there is possible video evidence from a nearby business.  Detectives are working to obtain a subpoena to access, view and obtain that video in order to further the investigative process.

At the present time, the case remains open and the matter will be further investigated.


Shots were reportedly fired at a school transportation van on Cleveland's east side Tuesday morning. 

According to Cleveland police, the incident happened on Columbia Avenue at East 105th Street around 8:30 a.m.

Police said the people in the van, which had a Suburban School Transportation sign on the back, heard a loud "pop" before the back window shattered.

A female driver and three teenage passengers were in the car at the time. The passengers were between the ages of 12 and 15, police said.

"I was shocked and scared and couldn't think at all. I started crying," said one of those students in the van. Her mother asked that we not identify her.

The teenager's brother was in that van as well. He said they noticed a suspicious man nearby. "We pass him and you hear a boom and in the back of the van, the window shattered," said the boy.

The three students and driver were headed to Cleveland School of the Arts.

The suspect is described as a tall black male wearing dark clothing.

No arrests have been made but police continue to investigate. No injuries were reported.

The Cleveland Division of Police is currently investigating a felonious assault shooting incident which occurred today at approximately 830am on Colombia near East 105th Street.

A school transportation van (Dodge Caravan) which is marked as school transportation (I do not have info as to if the van belongs to CMSD) was travelling on Colombia when a loud “pop” was heard by the driver and passengers, followed by the back window shattering.  No one was injured.  There was one female driver and three juvenile passengers, approximate ages 12-14.  I do not have info as to which school they were going to.

The suspect is described as a tall black male wearing dark clothing.  No arrests have been made, officers remain in the area.  there is not a report available at this time.
