Whether or not Shaker Heights native Michael Conor makes the “Boy Band” cut is now in the hands of American voters. The shows final eight contestants all performed solo songs Thursday night in their final competitive performances in the ABC Summer show with voting continuing until 11:59 p.m. Friday to select the top 5 who make the final band which will be announced Thursday, August 24.

Conor highlighted his rapping and singing ability tackling Macklemore’s “Can’t Hold Us” in his final performance. Afterwards his parents Bryan and Dena expressed their gratitude.

“We would like to thank the entire Shaker Heights community and in particular our friends and family for all of the support we've received this summer while Michael Conor has been competing in the ABC television show, Boy Band,” they wrote. “As his parents, we could not be any prouder of Conor, not just for what he has done with his talent but how he has done it with humility and respect throughout this process.

“Our family moved to Shaker Heights when Michael Conor was just 4 years old and immediately we were drawn in by the closeness of the community and the emphasis on the independence of the individual.”

Conor attended Lomond Elementary and Shaker Heights High School before pursuing his musical dreams.

“Shaker taught him, and us his parents, to give him room to express himself, take risks and find his unique voice. While the Arts are put on the back burner in other cities, Shaker continues to fight for and support their importance. Thank you!”

They also issued a plea for Northeast Ohio to help boost Conor into the final band.

“The top 5 will be part of the new boy band and will receive a recording contract with Hollywood Records. You can vote 1,000 times per device and can vote via text message via the link below. We are looking for your support one more time as final voting for the band is left up to the viewers.”

In addition, they will have a table setup at Shaker’s public Van Aken Beer Garden Friday night 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for anyone wishing to write a note in support of Conor or cast a vote in his favor ahead of the 11:59 p.m. deadline.
