PARMA, Ohio - A brief police chase ended in a crash with the suspect seriously injured.
North Royalton police attempted to pull over a man wanted on an aggravated menacing warrant when officers said the suspect took off Wednesday night.
The man, whose name police were not releasing, was pulled over on Ridge Road near Bunker Road and as officers approached the vehicle, the suspect sped off.
He traveled about a half mile on Ridge at a high rate of speed when he clipped a vehicle turning in front of him onto Sprague Road in Parma.
"They had just started to pursue him, yes, but it was less than a minute of pursuit," said North Royalton Safety Director Bruce Campbell. "I mean, the time they pulled over for the stop was about two minutes after five and the time that the crash happened was still two minutes after five."
Police said the driver of the other car had a knee injury, while the suspect was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition.
Campbell said the suspect, a 43-year-old Hinckley resident, had recently been released from prison after serving a 16-year sentence for attempted murder.
