An $8 million construction project on Cleveland's west side is causing quite a few headaches for drivers.
Multiple residents told News 5 their cars got stuck in a ditch along W. 130th Street after construction crews dug up the sidewalk on Tuesday morning as part of the project.
A manager of a local business, Giant Mart, told News 5 Perk Construction failed to warn drivers about the new traffic patterns. He said crews didn't post caution tape near the ditch and as a result multiple people drove their cars into the hole.
One driver, 19-year-old Pedro Garcia, went to the hospital after he fell victim to the project. Garcia said he drove into the construction zone around 3 p.m. on Tuesday when another car was coming into the parking lot.
"Nothing was blocked so I tried going around them and I ended up in the ditch," Garcia said.
Another driver News 5 spoke to told a similar story. Loundon Hardy said he drove his car into the ditch when the lights from an oncoming car obstructed his view.
News 5 reached out to the department of Public Works with Cuyahoga County. David Marquard, county engineer, said he would work with Perk Construction and others ahead of the project to ensure proper signage is posted in the area to warn drivers.
