Male bald eagle joins female in Rocky River nest, eaglet hatches

CLEVELAND - An eaglet has hatched in a nest at Cleveland Metroparks' Rocky River reservation.

After a bald eagle went missing last week, a new one has stepped in to fulfill the male's role in the nest.

Cleveland Metroparks posted on its Facebook page that the missing eagle appears to be dead.

This was further exasperating because the pair was nesting an egg. Metroparks says it is rare for the egg to hatch when the male in a nesting pair dies but in this case the egg was thankfully incubated enough to still hatch.
