More than a dozen participants are working with Kent State University and Oriana House to revitalize the Hough neighborhood.

The group is painting a mural at the Oriana House Hough Building. Judge Nancy R. McDonnell’s Community Based Correctional Facility allows for participants to include neighborhood revitalization as part of their treatment.

"We're making the community more beautiful,” said Darrius Miller. "It gives me something to look forward instead of going down the wrong path. Sometimes you get sidetracked. It’s never the end of the world; everybody makes mistakes."

Christopher Darling is an assistant professor at Kent State University. Darling arranged the curriculum with the help of a $7500 grant.

"I see a lot of myself in the clients,” said Darling. "People have come by from the community a liked the mural."

Miller will graduate from the program next month.
