CLEVELAND - State Rep. Armond Budish, a former Ohio House speaker, has entered the 2014 race for Cuyahoga County executive in Cleveland and has landed a high-profile endorsement.
Incumbent County Executive Ed FitzGerald, a fellow Democrat who is running for governor, joined Budish at his announcement Thursday and endorsed him.
According to The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, whose district stretches from Toledo to Cleveland, also spoke on Budish's behalf at the event.
The 59-year-old Budish, an attorney from Beachwood, is barred by term limits from seeking another two years in the Ohio House.
Former Sheriff Bob Reid also is running for the Democratic nomination for county executive. Democrats control county government and the party nominee likely would be favored next year.
