The Kirtland Police Department is warning residents of phone scammers attempting to get personal and financial information from them.

According to police, the scammers are calling residents from phone numbers with the “256” area code that appear to be from local businesses, homes and the police department.

When on the phone, the caller will try to get personal and financial information.

If you think you have been scammed, you should make a report with Kirtland Police. The non-emergency number is 256-3333.

If you suspect a call might be a scam, police recommend contacting the business directly.
