WILLOUGHBY, Ohio - Two people are in critical condition after a three-vehicle crash that happened on State Route 2.
The crash shut down the highway at Vine Street to Lost Nation Road around 10 p.m. Sunday.
According to troopers, a Harley motorcycle struck the rear of a Nissan and caused the motorcycle to lose control and drive off of the right side of the road then striking a concrete barrier, the rider was not wearing a helmet.
Then an Oldsmobile lost control in the same area as the motorcycle did causing the driver to also drive off the right side of the road and into the same concrete barrier. Troopers said the driver was not wearing his seatbelt.
The motorcycle rider, a 56-year-old Wickliffe man, was transported in critical condition to Lake West Medical Center and then taken via life flight to MetroHealth Medical Center.
The driver of the Oldsmobile, a 56-year-old Euclid man, was transported to Hillcrest Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The driver of the Nissan, a 28-year-old Euclid man, was not injured.
After investigating, troopers concluded that excessive speed, alcohol and/or drugs, and road rage may have played a part in the crash.
All lanes of State Route 2 Westbound are back open after the crash shut down all lanes for more than three hours.
Willoughby police are still investigating details surrounding the case.
