Two people are dead after a five-hour standoff in Brunswick that started Sunday evening.

Police initially responded to the Oxford Heights Condos in the area of Bennington Boulevard off Pearl Road around 6:57 p.m. for a report of shots fired.

SWAT was called after officers were unable to communicate with the people inside the condo.

Authorities told people who lived in the area to stay inside their homes while they resolved the situation.

When officers eventually entered the home, they found two men dead — an unidentified 42-year-old man and 41-year-old Steven Bonsell of Brunswick.

The incident started when Bonsell was asked to move out after living at the residence for about eight months, according to police.

The female homeowner left the residence and called police after Bonsell pulled out a gun. The unidentified man is the homeowner's ex-husband.

Police say Bonsell appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide.
