Mansfield Police investigate death of 14-year-old found unresponsive in bathtub

MANSFIELD, OH - Mansfield police detective are investigating the death of a 14-year-old child who was found unresponsive in a bathtub early Friday morning.

NewsChannel 5 Investigators spoke with the girl's caretaker Friday afternoon.

She told us she checked on the girl after hearing water running for an extended period of time in the bathroom and seeing water seeping into the basement ceiling of her home at 98 S. Franklin St.

The girl was living at the home for approximately one year.

After 911 was called, the girl was transported to Ohio Health MedCentral where she was pronounced dead.

newsnet5.com was unable to obtain the 911 call Friday because the supervisor was off for the holiday. 

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

NOTE: newsnet5.com was initially told that the teen was in foster care and reported as such; however, Monday Richland County Child Services said that the girl was not a foster child in agency custody.
