An 18-year-old driver died in a crash in Plain Township Thursday afternoon after going too fast around a curve.

Aaron Laudermilt was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria on Middlebrach Avenue when he sped around a curve and went off the edge of the road, according to the Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. When he overcorrected, the car went off the opposite edge and hit a utility pole. The vehicle then hit a large tree and turned onto its right side, coming to a stop on the front steps of a private residence.

Laudermilt was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front seat passenger, Kevin Laudermilt, 16, suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center by Plain Township Fire. He was then transported to Akron Children's Hospital.

Officials say both people were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
