PNC online banking websites apparently hit by cyber attack; 5 million customers notified

PITTSBURGH - PNC bank is warning its customers after its online systems came under attack.

The bank said its websites are getting hit with high traffic consistent with threatened cyber attacks.

PNC sent 5 million customers an email warning them of the ordeal, which may cause online access delays.

The bank said if you are having access issues, call its customer service department.

Here is the notice posted on PNC's website:

To our Valued Customers:

PNC and other U.S. banks may continue to be the target of a potential cyber attack. This potential threat could result in a high volume of electronic traffic that may make it difficult for some of our customers to sign onto online banking. We have no information regarding timing, duration or intensity of this potential threat. Please be assured that PNC's website is protected by sophisticated encryption strategies that shield customer information and accounts.

If you encounter a delay accessing online and mobile banking, please try logging on again. If the problem persists, you can reach out via Twitter @PNCBank_Help for assistance.
