The Portage County Animal Protective League is looking to review video shot by a 10-year-old Windham girl, which shows a cat being abandoned by a woman driving a black sedan at Windham Park.
The video shot on Sunday by Savannah Gibson, shows the vehicle slowly pulling away, and seconds later Gibson and her friend collecting the cat from the park.
Video of the incident has generated praise on social media and now has the APL investigating the case.
Gibson named the rescued cat "Luna," and is hoping her effort will generate leads in the case and help "Luna" find a new home.
"I was really shocked because I didn't expect her to do that," Gibson said. "I thought she had kids in her car, and I thought she'd just drop them off and just wait there."
The Portage County APL said it's on pace to rescue more than 1,000 animals this year alone and is hoping this case will spread awareness that the abandoning of animals won't be tolerated.
It said the woman in this case, if caught, could be charged with a second-degree misdemeanor, and face up to 90 days in jail if convicted.

Savannah Gibson agrees "Luna's" owner should be held accountable for her actions.
"Well maybe I think that they should go to jail or something, because that's really rude," Gibson said. "It's kind of like neglect, it's kind of like if you threw your cat outside."
