Police: Search called off for large monkey in Cincinnati after spotted near train station

CINCINNATI - Police have called off the search for a large monkey that was reportedly on the loose near the Cincinnati Museum Center Monday.

Cincinnati police said they received several reports that a large monkey was on the loose near the Cincinnati Museum Center, 1301 Western Ave., at about noon after a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey train passed through the center's train station at some point early Monday morning.

Representatives from the Cincinnati Zoo, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Ringling Bros. responded to the scene, but were not able to locate a monkey. They called off the search shortly after 1 p.m.

It is not yet clear if the monkey allegedly escaped from the circus' train.

Authorities have not yet said what kind of monkey allegedly escaped or if it posed any danger to people.

The monkey was last seen near Dalton Avenue.

Officials have not released any additional details at this time, but asked anyone who sees the monkey to contact police or call 911.
