AKRON, Ohio - Cleveland businessman Michael Forlani has been sentenced to serve eight years in federal prison on bribery and racketeering charges.
Forlani was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Court Judge Sara Lioi after agreeing to plead guilty in August 2012 to 13 corruption related counts.
The 55-year-old Forlani was the former owner of Doan Pyramid Electric, a company that was involved in thousands of dollars in bribes paid to former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora.
Two days ago, Dimora filed a massive appeal asking that his conviction be tossed out, in part, because of claims that key evidence that could have led to his acquittal was not permitted.
