Cairns Blog: Browns mistakes cost them in loss to Jaguars

CLEVELAND - The Browns travel on the road next week to New England to take on the Patriots and we could see the debut of Alex Tanney at quarterback if Jason Campbell is not ready.

The press did not hear from Brandon Weeden because of concussion like symptoms he suffered from after the game. According to NFL protocol a player is not allowed to address the media under those conditions.

Joe Haden who gave up the winning touchdown was physically shaken by what had just happened on the field saying "we (expletive) can't stand losing, it hurts, I go out there and put my (expletive) heart out there every week and every time we end up coming up short, it was my fault right there on the touchdown, he ran a good route"

Josh Gordon had a record setting day for the Browns with 10 catches for 261 yards and two touchdowns. Gordon becomes the first player in NFL history to post back to back 200 plus yard games in the same season.

Gordon said the game left a bitter taste in his mouth, asked after the game if he could appreciate the game he just had, he said " I really can't because for us it's all about winning this week and thats what we came in to do and as a group we couln't get it done and thats what matters most to me"

Browns defense gets soft with 32 seconds to go, Joe Haden bites the wrong way in the end zone. Cecil Shorts III, who played at Collinwood catches the game winning touchdown down. Jags win 32-28.

Browns get back on top as Josh Gordon breaks an NFL record. Two straight games with more than 200 yards receiving. A great move on a 95 yard strike from Brandon Weeden. to give the Browns a 3 point lead.

I must be a mind reader, bad snap over Weeden's head and he punts it out of end zone for a safety, what uglier way could this end. Jaguars lead 22-21 in the fourth quarter.

Browns defense has been great in the second half but a one point game will be decided by a turnover, I can just feel it.

Heading to the fourth quarter, can this Browns team close? They have the football and the lead 21-20.

Josh Gordon returns to the football game and gets loudest cheer of the game, then immediately catches a 10 yard pass from Weeden.

Browns defense has been a tale of two halves, after getting gouged in the first half they have shutdown the Jags offense in the second half.

Browns ruin a chance to extend the lead in the third quarter when Billy Cundiff misses wide right on a 53 yard field goal attempt. Chud took a risk by kicking field goal. Jaguars with great starting field position at the 43 yard line.

Josh Gordon absorbed a brutal blow to the head to draw an illegal contact foul. The NFL will hand out a huge fine there.Browns take advantage and get a five yard touchdown pass from Brandon Weeden to Greg Little to take the lead 21-20. This one may be the "Ugly Bowl" but it has had a little bit of everything.

That was one of the worst meltdowns I have ever seen. The Browns coughed up 13 points in 1:24 to give Jacksonville a 20-14 lead at the half.

Jaguars score four plays later on a 44 yard field goal from Josh Scobee. Jaguars lead 17-14 in the second quarter.

Brandon Weeden falling apart here now, another interception on the first play after the Jaguars score.

Jacksonville drives three plays and get and eight yard touchdown pass from Maurice Jones Drew to Mercedes Lewis to tie the score at 14.

Weeden makes his first mistake of the game throwing into triple coverage for Jordan Cameron intercepted by Johhnathan Cyprien and returned 17 yards.

Joe Haden comes up with his third interception of the season and third in the last four games.

For such a big wide receiver I am suprised how many body catches he makes as opposed to going up hands first.

Brandon Weeden makes his best throw of the day. A 21 yard touchdown strike to Josh Gordon to give the Browns a 14-7 lead at 12:03 of second quarter.

Brandon Weeden starts the game 4 for 6. Looks comfortable so far.

End of the first quarter tied at 7.

Jaguars answer with  long drive going 80 yards in 8 plays. Chad Henne hits Clay Harbour on an 18 yard touchdown to tie the game. 7-7.

Browns drive 47 yards in three plays. Willis McGahee dives in for a two yard touchdown. Browns lead 7-0 in the first quarter.

Browns jump all over a pathetic Jaguars defense. Brandon Weeden opens with a 42 yard pass to Josh Gordon after a 47 yard punt return into Jacksonville territory. With the catch Gordon goes over 1000 yards in a season, the first Browns receiver to accomplish the feat since Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow in 2007.

I don't know if they will ever actually announce the real attendance number here today but there are alot of orange seats.

The Browns look to snap their two game losing streak against Jacksonville today. Brandon Weeden will make his fifth start of the year in relief of Jason Campbell.

Browns win the toss and defer to the second half. The defense was announced today, only appropriate with how they are playing.

Browns Inactives:

The Stadium has a very empty feel to it today. I drove into the stadium West 3rd lot without any problems or lines today.
