California Chrome Favorite in Kentucky Derby 140

California Chrome gets post 5 in Kentucky Derby

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The post position draw for Kentucky Derby 140 took place on Wednesday with favorite California Chrome pulling post number 5, which is a decent spot for him.  California Chrome's ownership group was hoping for a post of 6 through 10, but remain hopeful with post 5.

There's nothing standout that suggests why California Chrome should not be listed as the favorite or should not win.  If you're looking for statistical aspects the favorites don't typically win the Derby, along with the fact that the last California bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby was Decidedly in 1962.

With Bob Baffert's Hoppertunity, who was the biggest threat in the field being scratched from the race, California Chrome will be an even bigger favorite come post-time.

Here are the post positions from the inside rail out:

1. Vicar's In Trouble, Odds 30/1

2.  Harry's Holiday, Odds 50/1

3. Uncle Sigh, Odds 30/1

California Chrome's pedigree background is extremely humble.  He is the son of Lucky Pulpit, who only won three times in 22 starts.  His dam, Love The Chase, was only able to claim one win out of six starts.  This week he'll be saddled to compete with some of the best competition in racing after impressively winning his last four races.
