AKRON, Ohio - The construction of a new critical care tower at the Akron Children's Hospital will affect how patients get to the hospital.
Locust Street is closed permanently between Exchange St and Buchtel Avenue. The emergency room will remain open 24 hours a day, but it could be confusing for patients trying to get to the hospital.
New signs are posted throughout the hospital campus to help drivers navigate the construction zone. Street signs directing patients to the emergency department will feature large red directional arrows and will say "Emergency." Signs with black arrows will direct people to the hospital's Bowery and Locust Street parking decks and the hospital's main entrance.
Drivers are urged to ignore their GPS directions once they get to the campus and begin following the signs.
