News 5's Janessa Webb moderates panel discussion to "Spark" girls' curiosity in STEM fields

News 5’s own Janessa Webb is helping inspire young girls to pursue jobs in STEM-related fields.

Today she moderated a panel of women whose careers involve science, technology, engineering and math.

The panel spoke to girls in middle and high school at the Cleveland Convention Center.

Gina Beredo and Gabby Christman are the co-founders of Spark.

Spark is an interactive and inspiration event designed to provide role models and “spark” curiosity in STEM-related fields for girls in grades 5 to 12.

The four panelists included Mozelle Jackson, Dr. Evalyn Gates, retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Wendi Carpenter and Dr. Marla Perez Davis.

Other STEM professionals attended the inaugural event, including biologists, engineers, chief information officers, IT professionals and accountants.

Organizers hope the event will inspire young girls to dream BIG.
