Man who burned down Stow home and duplex gets maximum 28 year prison sentence

STOW, Ohio - A Summit County judge has sentenced a 50-year-old man to the maximum prison sentence of 28 years for burning down his house in 2009 and a duplex in 2010.

Prosecutors said Scott Purk, 50, burned down his house in March 2009 to collect insurance money. He then set fire to a duplex in Stow in March 2010 where the resident was inside sleeping.

Luckily, the woman safely escaped.

The Stow Police Department spent two years investigating these crimes with assistance from the Stow and Cuyahoga Falls fire departments.

On Dec. 13, Purk pleaded guilty near the end of his trial to all of the charges in his indictment, including attempted aggravated murder, multiple counts of aggravated arson, insurance fraud and others.
