11,000 athletes headed to Cleveland for National Senior Games

CLEVELAND - The stage is set and the torch-lighting ceremony is ready as the new Cleveland Convention Center is transformed into an Olympic-style village.

Cleveland is hosting the 2013 National Senior Games, which will bring in more than 11,000 athletes.

Here are a few facts about the event:

-Athletes age 50 and from all 50 states will compete

-Athletes and visitors are booked at 33 hotels

-Lighting at the convention center can change depending on sport

-Volleyball courts are pieced together like Lego sets in the convention center

-A cell phone booster truck was brought in to supply cell service

-Track and field events will be at Baldwin Wallace University

-Basketball games will be played at Public Hall

The opening ceremonies are Friday at 4:30 p.m. on Mall B. Fireworks are at dusk.
