A boy with a loaded firearm was arrested on Monday near Shaw High School, according to East Cleveland police.
Police said officers responded to Shaw High School, located at 15320 Euclid Ave., for a report of a fight between juveniles outside the school and a man who had pointed a gun at a student.
When police arrived, people in the area pointed out the suspect. He began to run from police, but officers tackled him to the ground on Welton Drive off Shaw Avenue.
During the tackle, police said, a detective grabbed the suspect's gun and broke his own finger. The detective accidentally fired the gun into the ground. No one was injured.
The boy was arrested by police.
