Cleveland police say a 22-year-old woman is dead after getting hit by a wrong way driver downtown.

It happened around 2:50 a.m. on Saturday near the East 9th Street exit ramp off State Route 2.

According to police, a 29-year-old man in a Toyota Camry was driving eastbound in the westbound lane when he struck a Volkswagen Jetta, who had attempted to get out of his way.

The woman, identified by the medical examiner's office as Jessica Mustin of Middlefield, died as a result of her injuries.

The man from the Camry was taken to the hospital for life threatening injuries to his head. His identity and his condition have not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.

According to News 5 archives, this is at least the fourth wrong way crash on the Shoreway since March 2016. Saturday morning's crash was the first fatal wrong-way crash in that same time span.
