Forbes gaining affection for Cleveland, names city among those with emerging downtown area

CLEVELAND - The same publisher that named Cleveland among the nation's most miserable cities and one with the unhappiest workers seems to be growing some affection for the city.

On Monday, Forbes identified Cleveland as a U.S. city with an emerging downtown area. Fifteen cities were named including Denver, Detroit, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Atlanta.

The article cites Cleveland's Medical Mart and convention center slated for a summer opening, as well as a total $3.5 billion being invested in the area's redevelopment. Specific projects named include the move of the Cuyahoga County Administrative Headquarters, aquarium and proposed skate park.

The Forbes piece also cited the near-doubling of Cleveland's downtown population between 1990 and 2010.
