Skeletal remains found during Christina Adkins search near Interstate 90 and Jennings Freeway intact

No gender or age released

CLEVELAND - Investigators are still trying to determine the age and gender of the remains found on Friday near Interstate 90 and the Jennings Freeway.

Cleveland police, the FBI and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office discovered the remains while searching the area for Christina Adkins, who disappeared in 1995. The 18-year-old was five months pregnant when she was last seen on West 25th Street.

A source inside the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office said the skeletal remains were fairly intact. They have not released an age, gender or name, and the process could take several weeks.

On Oct. 2, police agencies searched Clark Fields in Tremont for evidence in the Adkins case, but found nothing. On Aug. 30, authorities investigated at a house on Vega Avenue and West 25th Street.

While Cleveland police have not named a suspect in Adkins' disappearance, sources told NewsChannel5 Chief Investigator Ron Regan that 49-year-old Elias Acevedo is a person of interest. Acevedo is a convicted sex offender, who was recently arrested for a 1993 rape case.
