Lawyer: Ashland man to plead in slave labor case

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A lawyer says his client plans to plead guilty to charges he helped enslave a mentally disabled woman and her daughter, including beating the woman and stealing her pain medication.

Attorney Russell Bensing said Wednesday the charges announced a day earlier reflect the lesser degree of involvement in the case by defendant Daniel Brown.

Brown is one of four people charged with targeting and recruiting the woman in 2010 and holding her until October in a house in Ashland in northeastern Ohio.

An indictment against three other defendants allege the woman was denied food, sexually assaulted, and threatened with dogs and snakes.

The charges against Brown and the others also allege they hit her badly enough to require a hospital visit for pain medicine, which they took from her.
