Bay Village balloons to help Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight

Sale benefits Cleveland Courage Fund

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio - Children love balloons. This fact is just one of those constants in life.

Becky O'Donnell, of Bay Village, understands that. She decided to utilize the inflatable child favorite to help Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight with their healing process.

O'Donnell sold balloons Saturday for $1 at Bay Village Soccer Club games at Cahoon Park to benefit the Cleveland Courage Fund, which was set up to help support the three women and their families.

"This community has an empathy for, certainly for, missing children," said O'Donnell.

The 'Helium Balloons for Healing' fundraiser was the brainchild of Becky and other moms in Bay Village.

O'Donnell is a former social worker in the Seymour Avenue neighborhood in Cleveland where the three women were rescued Monday.

"I know that street. I know those neighborhoods. They are 15 minutes from here," said Becky. "It could have been anybody's child. It could have been anybody's daughter."

The glass donation jar did not stay empty for long once balloon sales started. The sight of ten and twenty dollar bills in the jar was not an uncommon sight.

"The generosity has been amazing," said O'Donnell.
