Beachwood now offering emergency alerts via text message, email, telephone call

BEACHWOOD, Ohio - The city of Beachwood is now offering emergency alerts for citizens and businesses.

The new emergency communications system is called "CodeRED" and offers alerts via text message, email and phone calls.

"This new citywide system is fast and efficient, and takes advantage of modern technology," said Police Chief Mark Sechrist in a news release.

The city said all landlines (that are not unlisted) have been added to the system, but there is a way to sign up other numbers, including a cellphone.

Check out the signup form here:

There is no fee to sign up for the alerts.

The city has the ability to target alerts to specific blocks, if only one area of the city is affected by an emergency.

If you do sign up, the city is encouraging you to add these two numbers to your phone's address book, as they will appear on your caller ID:

- 866-419-5000 (emergency notifications)
- 855-969-4636 (general notifications)
