Several thousand people are expected to attend the second annual Women’s Marchin downtown Cleveland on Saturday. This year's message is “Power to the Polls.”

“The big push is to get more women to not only vote, but to run for offices,” said Sunny Matthews, co-chair of Women’s March Northeast Ohio.  "Our goal is to encourage people to get involved in social and political aspects of their life.”

Those interested should gather at Public Square. There will be speakers from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. At noon, participants will march from the square to City Hall and back.

Cleveland police say a detail will be assigned to the march. Officers will be along the route and on bicycles.

“If you see something, say something,” said Matthews. “We have peace marshals that are going to make sure we’re safe. If you see something, talk to them. We’re making sure we're vigilant.”

Women’s March Northeast Ohio will also host the Power to The Polls Forum in Lakewood Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Speakers include state representatives, community leaders and activists. Organizers would like those interested to register online because there is limited space.

“I’m just excited to see people ready and willing to engage in community activism,” said Matthews. “That’s a powerful thing.”
