The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. Saturday when a truck in the westbound lanes crashed into a pedestrian bridge near East 177th Street. Traffic has been shut down between E.152nd Street and E. 260th Street.

According to Cleveland police, the truck from Big Blue Trucking out of Warren, Ohio, was apparently traveling with the trailer raised when it struck the pedestrian bridge, causing serious damage to the bridge. The trailer also flipped over as a result.

Cleveland Police have identified the driver of the truck as 35-year-old Michael Edwards. He will be cited for all appropriate traffic violations by the Cleveland Division of Police. The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded as well for inspection of the vehicle.

Cleveland City Councilman Mike Polensek told NewsChannel5 the truck apparently also took out power lines above the highway, causing customers in the Collinwood area of Cleveland to be without electricity.

Work to dismantle the bridge took two days.
