RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio — A woman who crashed her car Saturday admitted to snorting heroin prior to her vehicle flipping onto its roof in the area of Highland Road and Donna Drive in Richmond Heights, according to a report from Richmond Heights police.

The driver, a 47-year-old woman from Richmond who is not being named until charges have been filed, was arrested and is to be charged with driving up the right side of the roadway, failure to control, and possibly an OVI, depending on blood results.

When police arrived shortly before 11:30 a.m., the driver was still in the driver’s seat and hanging upside down in her seat belt. Responding officers broke the vehicle’s windows to check on the driver.

The driver, who was “slow to answer questions” was extricated from the vehicle by the Richmond Heights Fire Department, according to the report.

Firefighters told police on scene that the driver was suspected of being under the influence of heroin because her lips and face had a bluish tint and she was very lethargic, the report states.

Information compiled from witnesses and investigators revealed that the driver was traveling west on Highland Road, approaching the 24800 block. The vehicle crossed the two eastbound lanes and struck a curb across from 24801 Highland Road.

The vehicle continued west in the grass until striking a pole across from 24777 Highland Road before it spun and flipped over onto its roof, where it finally came to a rest about 122 feet from where it struck the curb.

The driver was given six doses of Narcan in the squad car before she was transported to Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital for treatment. She admitted to snorting heroin prior to the crash, the police report states.
