The Erie County Sheriff’s office is investigating after one shot was fired at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky early Sunday morning.
According to authorities, deputies were called to the resort around 1:00 a.m. for a large group of people causing a disturbance at the Kalahari Nyumba Entertainment Villas. The group is estimated to have been as large as 60 to 70 people.
When deputies arrived on scene, the group ran to the parking lot where at least one shot was fired and a single shell casing was found.
While no one was injured in the shooting, authorities say two people were pistol-whipped. Two men who talked to authorities on the scene said they were in the suite when they started talking to a friend who walked by. An unknown man approached them and became upset, according to the police report.
While they argued with the man, a second man came up and pulled out a black and green Glock pistol with an extended magazine before hitting one of them in the head with the pistol, causing a large laceration.
According to police, the two men who were confronted by the two unknown males were approached again in the parking lot. One of the suspects pointed a smaller black and green Glock from his jacket. Both of the victims took cover when the suspect started firing his weapon.
Witnesses told authorities the suspects who fired the shot fled in a black BMW with temporary tags.
While searching the area of State Route 2 at US 250, deputies spotted a suspected vehicle at Speedway and followed it to Taco Bell.
Deputies then initiated a felony stop and arrested two men inside the vehicle.
The driver, Samuel McNight,19 and the passenger, Sylvester Harris,19 were both taken into custody after authorities discovered a pink and silver SCCY 9MM handgun in the glove compartment with one round missing.
At this time, deputies are still investigating if the gun found is the same gun that was shot at the resort. Police can't tie them with the shooting until a ballistic test comes back.
According to Erie County Jail, both men are being charged with improper handling of a firearm and carrying concealed weapons.
Their arraignment is set for Monday at 9 a.m. in Sandusky Municipal Court.
Police are still searching for an individual, pictured below, in connection with the shots fired in the parking lot of Kalahari.
