15-year-old boy hit by car that reportedly ignored school bus stop signs in Perry Township

PERRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A Perry School District student getting off a stopped school bus Wednesday was hit by a vehicle that ignored the bus' red lights and stop bar.

Lake County Sheriff's Office along with the Perry Fire District were called to 4290 Lane Rd. in Perry Township for a report of a pedestrian-injury accident.

Witnesses told Lake County Sheriff's deputies that the boy started walking across the street when they saw a car driving southbound ignored the bus's stop sign and drove around the bus.

The silver Chrysler LHS, driven by a 28-year-old Perry Township resident, hit the boy, knocking him into the windshield and off to the side of the road. He was taken to Madison Medical Center and then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center.

The student remains in stable condition, according to the sheriff's office Friday. The boy may leave the hospital Friday or over the weekend.

Authorities said the driver's name will be not released until charges are filed. Lake County sheriff's deputies will meet with the county prosecutor's office next week to determine if the driver will face charges.
