Man accused of serial car break-ins arrested by Willoughby police

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio - A Kirtland man who police say broke into multiple cars has been taken into custody.

Michael Skapin, 22, entered into at least four different vehicles, trespassed on six different properties, and stole over $12 in loose change from the vehicles, according to officers.

Police said they found the suspect early Monday morning after a resident on Gardenside Drive called 911 and reported a man walking from the front of his garage and looking into his two vehicles which were parked in the driveway.

The homeowner reported the suspect got into a silver Dodge Caravan, which Willoughby police located parked in a driveway at the end of the cul de sac. Police said an officer shined a flashlight at the minivan and saw the suspect jump from the driver's seat to the back of the van in an attempt to hide.

He was then ordered out of the vehicle and placed under arrested without further incident.

Skapin was charged with theft, vehicle B&E, and trespass and held on $3,500 bond.

He was scheduled in court for an arraignment Monday morning.
